i've been doing a little thinking about the gay marriage thing since the suprise events of yesterday. upon hearing about the licenses and weddings going on at the sandoval county court house i jumped in my car and within 10 minutes was standing on the lawn in back of the courthouse. you could feel the joy of the couples in the process of living a dream...
you could feel the joy of their families and friends...
inside the courthouse the tension was obvious. a fax had just arrived from the AG of new mexico, Patricia Madrid that was read as a order to stop issuing the licenses.
about 50 couples waited to hear if they too would be given the opportunity to make the commitments to each other, and to hopefully enjoy some of the benefits of a legal marriage...
it was not to be and i felt a profound sadness, a sadness similar to just missing the boat that was to wisk you away on a grand adventure. inside the courthouse, people were NOT happy...
i have read about people and politicians taking stands against same sex couples being allowed to marry, but i just cannot find even a one of their arguments that can hold water. they say "it's wrong" and i ask "in whose's eyes".. "god" they say...
i say bullshit. here in america we have freedom of religion, and that means that no one god can make the rules for everyone. plain and simple.
besides- what kind of cruel and sadistic person would want to deny anyone the joy that comes with commiting to the person you love? not a man of woman who fancies themselves a lamb of god..
what does it hurt to allow people of all sexual orientations the right to be married?
can anyone answer that question WITHOUT bringing some religion into the answer?
ya- i thought not. and from the way i read the constitution of the united states, the law of the land is to be divorced from any religion.
how about this for a new law.. if you are against homosexual marriage, don't get married to a homosexual, otherwise shut the hell up and go back to church.
there are a few lucky gay and lesbian couples in new mexico who now have these...
and i have a feeling that the only way anyone will be able to take that away will be to pry the paper from two sets of cold dead hands.
For those of you who still believe that the invasion of Iraq was designed to free the Iraqi people and give them the gift of democracy, check this out. According to the script written at the Pentagon, the invasion was originally predicated on turning over the government to the exiles who were the pets of the vice president and the Pentagon ("And then the people will rise up..."). When that plan fell apart, due to the negative reactions of the people of Iraq, the exiles and their masters had to find new ways to bring them to power. By hiring them to provide security, they give them the opportunity to build private armies, hiring such luminaries as ex-Apartheid enforcers as mercenaries. And, my fellow Americans, we are paying the bill for hiring these thugs and enriching the exiles. I am embarrassed to have supported the $87 billion to rebuild Iraq last year. What a fool I was to not realize how corrupt we have become.
Update: Interesting side note - the company's name, Erinys, comes from the name of a group of goddesses of vengeance. Wonderful.
i brought the whole post here because his permalinks are acting all farked.. sorry Steve.
is the DNC taking a page from the whitehouse playbook? my god, lets hope that a preliminary plan to create a Free-Speech Zone at the democratic national convention in beantown gets scraped before it gets even a mere moment of serious consideration.
the democrats need to set themselves APART from the whitehouse's disregard for the bill of rights, not snuggle up to it.
come on guys.. we need some sanity here if we are to depose the selectee.
Ralph Nader is a good american. a man with real conviction and a man who hates corruption, but because bush is so bad, we need to make sure that Mr. Nader does not run for president and dilute the numbers of people who will rise up against the shrub in the coming election..
please take a few minutes to write Ralph Nader and respectfully ask him to not run for the office of the presidency in election of november of 2004.
here is the text of my note to Ralph:
Dear Mr. Nader-
i adore all you stand for, and i do believe that a true 3rd party is desperately needed here in america.
but..
right now is not the time. w is just too dangerous and the few votes you will receive will only serve to help bush in this very close election. i hate what the neo-conservatives are doing to our nation, and they need to be stopped. now!
i implore you to not only decide against running for president in 2004, but to do what you can to help the candidate who will be facing this evil man and his handlers and minions.
i'm placing two shots this week and the challenge is "status":
this shot is of the King's Temple at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, Thailand...
and this one was taken in the Forbidden City in Beijing, China. The more animals on the eves of a building indicate the status of that building on the social ladder. this was the most i had seen...
Molly found this article about how CBS is again giving monicas to the bush whitehouse. it seems that only days after doing the right thing and pulling an improper and misleading ad created by the the bush campaign's media providers, CBS has again crawled under w's desk in order to please the almighty by agreeing to resume airing of the controversial ad.
it must be nice to have your very own broadcasting company.
White House downplays job predictions:
"The White House backed away Wednesday from its own prediction that the economy will add 2.6 million new jobs before the end of this year, saying the forecast was the work of number-crunchers and that President Bush was not a statistician."
it almost appears that the president has once again been fooled by his incompetent administration...
language like that makes me believe that the whitehouse knows the lil w's credibility is in the shitter with anyone smart enough to read. hell. i'm sure that a lot of conservatives out there are only remaining supportive of bush so they can save face, afraid to admit that they might indeed be wrong about him. how can it be that this man is still the leader of the free world?
when will the shrub realize that the buck stops at the president's desk?
i'm getting fed up to here with that boneheads's excuses.. "oh it's not my fault.. nooo i didn't do it.." w is just a little boy, in WAY over his head.
please please please .. vote this idiot out of office before he can screw up something else.
Whte Sands N.P. is a big place, the size of a couple small new england states mashed together. within the park are the actual dune fields that take up only 275 square miles. the dunes are made from gypsum, that originates from a dry alkalie lake bed to the southwest. an awe inspiring place, even if it is minus 50 below zero in the mornings. ( the temp was actually in the low 20's / upper teens, but it felt pretty damm cold)

i've been away on a secret mission.. im back now and will be posting a couple of so-so snapshots collected while out and about. i also need to catch up with the news etc of the past couple of days.. more to come
this kind of thing always amazes me. i wonder if this lawsuit is really being driven by the so-called "victims" or rather the plaintiff's lawyers, who see a cash cow dying off before it can be taken to market.
at issue here to me is not that there was a great injustice done, it's that nearly everyone responsible for it is long dead.
The democratic hopeful john edwards has made his fortune as a plaintiff's lawyer and thats the main reason i'm hoping someone else gets the nod to run against bush.
the rangers are trading A-Rod to the Yankees? silly silly silly boys in texas. you'd think a move this dumb could only come when george w. bush was running the rangers.
is this the new look of the republican party? more anecdotal evidence that the "conservatives" of today are not the same republicans that your parents knew and loved.
Yesterday i was surfing through a rather conservative blog (the anti-idotairian rottweiler) and left a comment. ironically i was somewhat in agreement with the the original poster but the comment police decided that it was flame war time. i suppose now that football season is over, the right wing intelligencia of america hs nothing better to do. anyway, while most of the high schoolers there could only respond in insults, there was one who did a nice job making his point. he and i went to the point where it became non productive and i dropped it. here is the url to the website:

i'm not going to hot link it, as i'm really not excited about promoting such hate-speak.
one of the trolls came calling at the bark and left some anonymous cut and past debitage here and there in the comments, here are his / her details from the logs:

anyway, i deleted the comments with a small placeholder to show that i had indeed deleted some irrelevent content, but upon reflection i really should ask you guys what you think about such things.
if you don't mind doing so and have a spare moment or two, please take a few minutes and leave a comment or email me on what you think i should do with random ill spirited commentary. this blog is for you guys as much as it is for me so i really would like to hear your opinions on the matter.
